Services Available

Further Education


In St Fanahan’s College, we are proud of our reputation of providing quality education in a caring and holistic environment. As part of our service to the community we have continued to increase and develop our PLC courses.

Career Guidance

We aim to assist you in your career choice and help you to establish what third level courses are available to you. We aim to work with you to enable you to transfer from your FETAC Level 5 course onto the many IT and university courses that are available through the links system.

Canteen

Our canteen facilities are available to our PLC learners as well as to our second level learners. There are separate break times for the two groups. The canteen is located towards the back of the school. It provides our learners with soup, sandwiches, scones, fruit, tea and coffee as well as other healthy food and refreshments throughout the day.

Students' Council

PLC learners will be represented on the St Fanahan’s College Students' Council. Your representatives will give you a voice on the council and examine any issues that you may wish to raise. The welfare and care of our learners is our top priority.

Computer Facilities


We are proud to have our own computer network and broadband access. Each of our learners have their own storage space on the server which eliminates the need for floppy discs and CDs as storage. We have four well-equipped computer labs and printing facilities. Free internet and e-mail access is available within reason.

Course Fees

NB CHANGE THIS AS NECESSARY There are no tuition fees. Learners pay registration, examination and photocopying fees. Learners who are medical card holders may be exempt from state examination fees.

Book Rental Scheme

We have established a book rental scheme within the college whereby we purchase all necessary course books and rent them out to our learners. There is a charge for those who wish to avail of our book rental scheme.

Wheelchair Access

Our main college building and PE hall are wheelchair accessible as are all rooms within our college. We also provide a wheelchair accessible toilet.

Toilet Facilities

There are separate toilet facilities for our PLC learners away from our second level learners.

Work Experience


In St Fanahan’s we view work experience as a core element of our courses. We train our learners to gain as much practical, personal and interpersonal experience as possible and to build upon the skills they already have. Our aim is to develop a confident, competent and employable work force.

Poly Tunnel

Our horticulture learners gain practical experience in working with seeds, seedlings and fully grown plants in our poly tunnel. The advantage of having our own poly tunnel is that we can grow out-of-season plants throughout the winter. This increases the learning and experience of our learners. Organic principles are applied in all our classes. Our students also have full access to our state-of-the-art science labs.

Woodwork Rooms

We are very proud of our well equipped woodwork rooms. We stock the latest equipment such as lathes, palm sanders and circular, radial and band saws. Health and safety principles are applied in all our practical rooms.

Art Room

Our art room is a very popular destination for all our classes. There is a great opportunity to explore a variety of areas within art, craft and design. All learners are encouraged to develop their creativity and skills in a positive and encouraging atmosphere. Learners’ efforts are facilitated in this well stocked room.

Dark Room

Our purpose built photography ‘black and white’ dark room allows learners to gain the fundamentals of black and white photographic development. This course is an exciting opportunity for learners to develop their photographic skills.

PE Hall

The PE hall is another great source of pride for our college. By remaining up to date on innovations and developments the hall is stocked with equipment for athletics, team sports, and aerobics to name but a few.

Library

Our library is equipped with course relevant reference books, magazines and newspapers to enable earners to enhance their knowledge and to remain informed of market trends and information updates. Study booths are available to learners who wish to work on assignments during their free time. Computer access is also available.
