1/ Deis Inspection:
Last week we welcomed 2 Department of Education Inspectors to the college. They were with us for 3 days inspecting our Deis status. We are delighted to report that everything went very well and they were very pleased with their findings. The inspectors visited the Breakfast Club, the Homework Club, Evening study and they sat in on many classes. They also met a focus group of parents. A huge thank you to everyone involved.
2/ Parents Council:
Bingo Night: The Parents Council will hold a monster Bingo Night here at St Fanahans on Mon Dec 5 th at 8p.m. A final meeting to organize the event will be held in the library next Mon night Nov 28 th at 8p.m. Any parents that are available to attend are more than welcome. If anyone can donate a raffle prize it would be greatly appreciated too. Please contact Elma Twomey HSCL for more details.
Fame: Our annual Fame Concert is being held on Fri Dec 16 th in the P.E. Hall. Again the parents’ council are always great to get involved here. Any other parents that could assist backstage or with the shop please contact the HSCL Officer.
3/ General Items
F1 in Schools: The Formula 1 Team have submitted their 5 page application and are eagerly awaiting confirmation to be accepted to the Regional Finals. Mr N O Sullivan is working with the group.
B/T Young Scientist: Mr Butler and his Young Scientist group are working very hard at their waste management project at the moment. A non Uniform Day and a sponsored walk are being held to help with funds for the project. 1 st & 2 nd Year Science students also visited City Hall Cork recently for Science Week.
Sports: 1 st & 2 nd Year girls will take part in a Spikeball competition in Clonmel on Dec 6 th. The girls soccer team are provisionally booked to play Clonakilty on Dec 12 th here at the school and the girls Camoige team travelled to Mallow on Tue Nov 22 nd to take part in a blitz.
JCSP: Mr Connolly has applied for the initiatives again and we have been successful in being awarded 6 out of 7. Therefore Make a Book, Science for fun and more activities will run after Christmas.
€1,500 has also been received for hand held gaming devices so Nintendo DS’s have been ordered.

4/ Careers:
Ms Griffin held a very informative careers evening for Senior cycle parents on Tue last Nov 15 th. A great crowd attended on the night and if any parent needs to talk to her again she can be contacted on 025-
Study Skills will be ran with 3 rd Year students over the next few weeks.
Ucc Plus tuition is up and running after school with extra Irish, English & Maths on offer for students. Please encourage your son/daughter to avail of this fantastic opportunity.
Dairygold ~ In conjunction with our careers dept a link with Dairygold was fostered many years ago. This tradition continues again this year with our senior students visiting the plant to see the work in progress and get advice on interview skills and C.V. preparation. A sincere thank you to all at Dairygold who are involved with St Fanahans. Mr Sheehan & Ms Griffin visited the plant with the students.
5/ Art:
2 nd & 3 rd Year Art classes had a very interesting art trip to Dublin recently. They visited several cultural hot spots including "The National History Museum". The day proved to be a fantastic success and the students were accompanied by Ms O Sullivan, Ms O Keeffe & Ms Aldridge.
An Art Club is being set up at the moment and it will run from 4:20-
Congrats to Emma Casey, Simon O Brien and Molly O Sullivan on winning an art prize recently for their collages. Congrats also to Danielle Gubbins, Nikitta Irwin and Rachel Dwane for winning prizes for their visual diaries.
6/CSPE: Community Garda John Hennessy visited the 2 nd year CSPE class recently to speak about his job as a garda in the community of Mitchelstown. St Vincent De Paul representatives also visited the CSPE classes to speak about the importance of their charity in the community.
7/ Home School Community Liaison: Cookery classes are continuing on Fridays between 11-
The new Mitchelstown library is open at Suttons Corner and it only costs 50c to join. This is a fantastic facility and everyone is encouraged to join. Ms Hennessey and Ms O Sullivan have application cards here at St Fanahans.
Seasons for Growth ~ Living with Loss, Grief & Change ~ This course is being held on Feb 21 st 2012 for 8 weeks. It will run for adults and students. Further details from Elma or Sadie @ The Ballyhoura Office
